Our Community

The community of Whitney Pier is now been designated as a National Historic Event. This designation is a result of the influx of cultures from around the globe who settled in this community and brought with them their heritage and culture that remains to this day.

When you visit the museum, you will notice that it is divided into sections so that it is easy to find our story. In the foyer we have some artifacts from churches and military personnel. On the left as you enter, is former businesses of Whitney Pier, as you continue down there is memorabilia from the fire department, sports, the Jewish community, schools, the steel plant and the military. You will find more memorabilia on the Black community, Mi’kmaq community, European, Italian, and Ukrainian. On the lower level, there are cases that contain smaller artifacts representing life in the community.
